Applying False Eyelashes and Other Lash Enhancing Tips

False eyelashes are still the go-to for dramatically fuller lashes and you'll get the best results from learning proper application techniques (and putting in some practice). If faux lashes aren't for you, consider changing up your mascara routine, talking to an aesthetician about lash tinting or rely on the illusion eyeliner creates.
False Eyelashes
One trick that many women use, particularly for special occasions and eveningwear, is false eyelashes. High-quality false eyelashes are made from human hair, and they blend in perfectly with your own lashes to create a dramatically full eyelash look.
To apply false lashes, you will need a set of false lashes, tweezers, scissors and lash adhesive. Follow these simple steps:

• Measure the upper lash by starting halfway between the inside corner of your eye and the curve where the iris begins and measure to the outer corner of your eye. If the lash is too long, trim it to fit.
• Bend the lash into a horseshoe shape so it becomes flexible and can fit the curve of the eyelid.
• Add a small amount of adhesive to the bottom of the eyelash strip and wait for a few seconds so it can set.
• Starting with the shorter lashes, apply the lashes from halfway between the inside corner of your eye and the curve where the iris begins. Put the lashes as close to your actual lash line as possible, and gently push the false lash down along the base of your eyelid.

Do the same with the bottom lashes; again, the shorter lashes go on the inside of the eye, closest to the nose.
Another type of false eyelash that can be used is known as eye tabbing, or eyelash extensions. Tabbing involves applying individual synthetic lashes to your own lashes. The lashes last about six to eight weeks. This is done in the salon by your cosmetologist or aesthetician.
On Hollywood's hottest runways, a new eyelash trend has begun. False eyelashes made from mink fur and diamonds are worn by stars like Jennifer Lopez and Madonna. You may not want to fork over the $5,000 price tag that Madonna did to have real diamonds added to her false lashes, but you can still achieve playful effects on a budget.
Mascara
Mascara, which has been around since the early twentieth century, is still the the most time- and cost-efficient way to get thicker lashes. To apply liquid mascara, simply brush it onto the lashes. Most women use mascara on both the upper and lower lashes. When applying, carefully stroke it onto the lashes, being sure to cover the innermost lashes and the outermost corner lashes that frame your eye.
For maximum effect, you can use an eyelash curler. An eyelash curler crimps your upper lashes, giving them a little extra oomph. Use the eyelash curler before you apply your mascara. Some women use the curler afterwards, and it can be a matter of personal preference, but use of a curler before you apply mascara helps keep the curler clean and prevents clumping.
Since the eyelash curler pinches the lashes for the curling effect, use the curler carefully, and take time to position your lashes between both parts of the curler. Otherwise, you may pinch your eyelid.
To keep the lashes individually defined and separated, use a fine lash comb and gently separate the lashes. You can also curl your lashes with an eyelash curler either before or after applying your mascara.
For years, mascara was primarily black, brown or blonde, but you can find fun, trendy shades that match your outfit or match your eye color.
Eyelash Tints and Dyes
One way to give your eyelashes a permanent boost, if you are blonde or have light-colored lashes, is to have them permanently dyed a darker shade. While they need to be recolored every four to six weeks, having your eyelashes dyed a darker color is a good solution to pumping up your barely there lashes. You can have your lashes dyed at some hair salons or by an aesthetician, but it's not the kind of technique you should try at home.
Eyeliner
Using eyeliner can really open up your eyes and draw attention to your lashes. Liquid eyeliner has the most dramatic effect. Many eyeliner applicators allow you to vary the width of the line you create with an adjustable applicator.
A broader, thicker line is most often used to accent the outside corner of the eye, creating a striking look that is well suited to evening or special occasion makeup, like a wedding or a night out. Eyeliner is also available in a variety of colors to coordinate with your mascara and eyeshadow.
